Understanding Operators in Excel

Operators are the foundation of any programming language, and Excel is no different. In Excel, operators are used to perform operations on values and expressions. There are two types of operators in Excel: arithmetic and logical. Arithmetic operators are used to perform mathematical operations, such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Logical operators are used to compare values and expressions, and to return a TRUE or FALSE result. The following table lists the operators that can be used in Excel, and provides a brief description of each.

Arithmetic Operators

+Adds two values together
-Subtracts one value from another
*Multiplies two values together
/Divides one value by another
%Returns the remainder after one value is divided by another
( )Encloses a series of values or operators that should be calculated first
