Turning Off Sharing in Excel

To turn off sharing in Excel, follow these steps:

  1. Open the workbook that you want to stop sharing.
  2. Click File, and then click Info.
  3. Under Workbook Properties, click Advanced.
  4. Clear the Allow changes by more than one user at the same time. This also allows workbook merging check box.
  5. Click OK.


If you are using Excel Online, you can share your workbook with others so that they can edit it at the same time. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Open the workbook that you want to share.
  2. Click File, and then click (Share Workbook).
  3. (This command is not available if the workbook is already shared.)
  4. (Optional) To change how this workbook is shared, under Editing restrictions and merge conflicts, click Merge Workbooks in Excel.

(Optional) To specify who can edit which parts of the shared workbook, under Who should have access, click Specific people, and then add or remove users as needed.
