Scrolling Up and Down in Excel

When you scroll up or down in Excel, the active cell always remains in the center of the screen. If you scroll too far, the active cell may move off the screen. To scroll without moving the active cell, hold down the Ctrl key while you scroll.

To scroll one row at a time:

  1. Click the row header of the row that you want to make active.
  2. Press Shift, and then press an arrow key (, , , or ) to scroll.

To scroll one column at a time:

  1. Click the column header of the column that you want to make active.
  2. Press Shift, and then press an arrow key (, , , or ) to scroll.


Tip: To quickly scroll to the last row or column on a worksheet, click the appropriate button on the horizontal or vertical scroll bar, or press END, followed by an arrow key.
