How to Create Automatic Lines for Dividing Lists in Excel

Assuming you have a list in Excel and you want to create automatic lines to divide the list:

  1. Create a new column next to the column with your list. This will be the column where you insert the line breaks.
  2. In the first cell of the new column, type =rand(). This function will insert a random number in the cell.
  3. Copy this cell down the column so that each cell contains a different random number.
  4. Select your entire list, including the column with the random numbers.
  5. Click on the Sort button on the Home tab of the ribbon. In the Sort dialog box, choose to sort by Column B, in ascending order. Click OK.
  6. Now your list is randomly sorted, with line breaks between each group of items.
