Grabbing the MRU List in Excel

There are a few ways to grab the most recently used (MRU) list in Excel. One way is to use the Get-ItemProperty cmdlet. For example, to get the MRU list for Excel 2010, you would use the following command:

Get-ItemProperty HKCU:\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Excel\File MRU

You can also use the reg command to view the same information. The following command will give you the MRU list for Excel 2010:

reg query HKCU:\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Excel\File /v MRU

If you want to see the MRU list for all versions of Excel, you can use the for /f command to loop through all of the keys in the registry. The following command will give you the MRU list for all versions of Excel:

for /f "tokens=2*" %%a in ('reg query HKCU:\Software\Microsoft\Office') do (
if "%%b"=="Excel" (
reg query "HKCU:\Software\Microsoft\Office\%%a\Excel\File" /v MRU
)
)
