Forcing Stubborn Recalculation in Excel

There are a few ways to force stubborn recalculation in Excel. One way is to use the Calculation Options button on the Formulas tab. This will give you a drop-down menu of options, one of which is Manual. Selecting this option will tell Excel to only recalculate when the Calculate Now or Calculate Sheet buttons are clicked. Another way to force recalculation is to press the Ctrl+Alt+F9 keys together. This shortcut will recalculate all open workbooks, whether they have been set to manual or automatic calculation.

If you have a workbook that is set to manual calculation and you try to close it, Excel will prompt you with a warning message asking if you want to save the changes you made. If you click Yes, the workbook will be saved and then closed. If you click No, the workbook will close without saving. If you click Cancel, the workbook will remain open.
