When you first open Excel, the Welcome screen appears. On the Welcome screen, click Blank workbook to create a new workbook.
On the File tab, click New, and then click Blank workbook.
A new workbook is created. The worksheet consists of cells arranged in rows and columns. Each cell can contain text, numbers, or formulas.
Entering Data in a Worksheet
You can enter data in a worksheet in two ways:
- Click a cell, and then type the data.
- Use the AutoFill feature to enter data that follows a pattern or is based on data in other cells.>
To enter data in a cell
- Click the cell where you want to enter data.
- Type the data.
To use the AutoFill feature
- Select the cells that contain the data you want to use to fill other cells. These cells are called the source cells.
- Point to the lower-right corner of the selection until you see , and then double-click.
