Finding the Path to the Desktop in Excel

When you first open Excel, the Welcome screen appears. On the Welcome screen, click Blank workbook to create a new workbook.

On the File tab, click New, and then click Blank workbook.

A new workbook is created. The worksheet consists of cells arranged in rows and columns. Each cell can contain text, numbers, or formulas.

Entering Data in a Worksheet

You can enter data in a worksheet in two ways:

  • Click a cell, and then type the data.
  • Use the AutoFill feature to enter data that follows a pattern or is based on data in other cells.

To enter data in a cell

  1. Click the cell where you want to enter data.
  2. Type the data.

To use the AutoFill feature

  1. Select the cells that contain the data you want to use to fill other cells. These cells are called the source cells.
  2. Point to the lower-right corner of the selection until you see , and then double-click.
