Converting Imported Information to Numeric Values in Excel

When you import information into Microsoft Excel, the program attempts to convert all data to numeric values. This is because Excel is primarily a spreadsheet program designed for working with numbers. However, sometimes you may want to keep the imported data as text values. For instance, if you are importing a list of product names, you may want to keep the product names as text so that you can easily reference them in your worksheets.

To convert imported information to text values in Excel, you can use the following steps:

  1. Open your Excel workbook and select the cells containing the data that you want to convert to text. You can do this by clicking on the cell and then dragging your mouse over the cells that you want to select.
  2. Right-click on one of the selected cells and choose "Format Cells" from the menu that appears.
  3. In the "Number" tab of the "Format Cells" dialog box, select "Text" from the list of available options.
  4. Click "OK" to close the dialog box and apply your changes.

Your imported data should now be displayed as text values in your Excel worksheet.
