Backing Up Your Customized Toolbars in Excel

Backing up your customized toolbars in Excel is a simple process that can save you a lot of time and frustration in the future. By taking a few minutes to backup your toolbars now, you can avoid having to recreate them from scratch if something goes wrong or if you need to reinstall Excel. Here's how to do it:

  1. Open Excel and go to the File menu. Select Options from the drop-down menu.
  2. In the Excel Options window, select Customize Ribbon from the left-hand sidebar.
  3. Click the Export/Import button at the bottom of the window.
  4. In the Import/Export Customizations window, select Export All Personal Macro Settings. Click OK.
  5. Choose a location to save the file and give it a name. Make sure to remember where you save it! Click Save. Your toolbars will now be backed up in the form of an .exd file.



Note: If you have multiple Excel files open when you export your toolbar settings, only the settings from the active workbook will be exported. To export settings from all open workbooks, close all but one workbook before exporting.

If you're using Windows 7 or 8, you can back up your customized toolbar settings by following these steps:



  1. Open Excel and go to the File. Select Options> from the drop-down menu.
