Excel Adjust Column Width Shortcut: How to Adjust Columns Quickly in Excel

If you work with data in Microsoft Excel, you know how important it is to keep your columns properly sized. Otherwise, your data can look messy and be difficult to read. Fortunately, there's a quick and easy way to adjust column width in Excel using a keyboard shortcut.

To adjust column width in Excel using a keyboard shortcut:

  1. First, select the column or columns that you want to adjust. You can do this by clicking on the column header (the letter at the top of the column).
  2. Then, press and hold the Alt key on your keyboard. While you have the Alt key pressed, press the down arrow key.
  3. You should see a small black box appear at the bottom-right corner of the selected column or columns. This black box is called the "column width adjustment handle".
  4. Now, while still holding down the Alt key, press the left or right arrow key on your keyboard. Doing so will increase or decrease the width of the selected column or columns.
  5. Once you've got the column widths where you want them, simply release the Alt key and the arrow keys on your keyboard.
