Adjusting Picture Appearance in Excel

There are a few ways to adjust the appearance of pictures in Excel. One way is to use the Picture Tools Format tab. With this tab, you can change the brightness, contrast, and saturation of a picture. You can also crop, rotate, or flip a picture. Another way to adjust the appearance of a picture is to use the Adjust group on the Picture Tools Format tab. With this group, you can change the color of a picture, make it transparent, and add artistic effects.

To change the brightness, contrast, and saturation of a picture:

  1. Select the picture that you want to adjust.
  2. On the Picture Tools Format tab, in the Adjust group, click Recolor.
  3. Click one of the following options:
    • Brightness: Move the slider to make the picture brighter or darker.
    • Contrast: Move the slider to increase or decrease the contrast in your photo. For example, if you increase contrast, dark areas appear darker and light areas appear lighter.
    • Saturation: Move the slider to increase or decrease color intensity. For example, if you increase saturation, colors appear more vivid.

To crop a picture:

  1. Select the picture that you want to crop.
  2. On the Picture Tools Format tab, in the Size group, click Crop.
  3. The cropping handles appear around your selected photo (they look like small squares). To crop your photo:

      • Drag any cropping handle toward or away from the center of your photo until it's cropped how you want it.

(Cropping handles are shown as small squares around selected photo)
    1. When you're done cropping your photo using any of these methods above, press Enter. If you want to cancel cropping your photo and restore it back to its original size at any time while still in cropping mode above (that is before pressing Enter) , press Esc.
