Excel Shortcuts: Change Case

If you work with text in Microsoft Excel, you may find yourself needing to change the case of that text on a regular basis. For example, you may need to change text from all uppercase to all lowercase, or from lowercase to uppercase, or you may need to capitalize only the first letter of each word. Whatever the case may be, there is a keyboard shortcut that can save you time and make this task a breeze.

To change the case of selected text in Excel, simply highlight the text you want to change and press the following keys at the same time: Shift + F3. That's it! When you press these keys, a dialog box will appear with three options: UPPERCASE, lowercase, and Capitalize Each Word. Simply click the option you want and the text will change to that case. You can also cycle through these options by pressing the Shift + F3 keys multiple times.

If you want to change the case of text without opening the dialog box, you can use the following keyboard shortcuts:

To change selected text to all uppercase, press Ctrl + Shift + U.
To change selected text to all lowercase, press Ctrl + U.
To capitalize the first letter of each word in selected text, press Ctrl + Shift + A.

Remember, these shortcuts only work on selected text. If you want to change the case of an entire column or row of text, you'll need to select that column or row first. To do so, click on the column or row header. For example, to select an entire column, click on the column header (the letter at the top of the column, such as A, B, C, etc.). To select an entire row, click on the row header (the number to the left of the row, such as 1, 2, 3, etc.).

Once you have the column or row of text selected, you can use any of the above shortcuts to change the case of the text. And if you ever need to change the case of text that isn't selected, simply press the Ctrl + A keys to select all text in the document, then use one of the above shortcuts.

So there you have it! A quick and easy way to change the case of text in Excel using keyboard shortcuts. Give it a try the next time you need to change the case of text in a document and see how much time you can save.
